Small Connecticut Writing-arm Chair
|
I have seen only one Connecticut writing chair of this type--that is, one based on the small comb-back armchairs known from this region. The carved pinwheels and rosettes on Connecticut case work are occasionally found on windsor chair crests as well. Two-tone finishes and grain-painted surfaces were also done. This piece of course, is a combination of all of the above, except that this is actual tiger maple rather than graining. One-piece seat and writing surface. The hanging, dovetailed drawer incorporates a hidden lock and release mechanism (made of hickory) that is durable and effective. This chair is very comfortable and just a delight to have in a room. Left-handed version shown.
